Pre-Kindergarten at Burley

There are two pre-kindergarten programs at Burley: a full-day, Tuition-Based Pre-K with wrap around day care, and a half day State pre-K offering both morning and afternoon sessions. Both programs are led by highly qualified, experienced teachers with state certification in Early Childhood Education. The teachers are supported by knowledgeable, caring teacher assistants with a minimum of 60 hours of college credit. Pre-K programs at Burley maintain a child to adult ratio of 10 to 1 or better. Students must be 3 years old and toilet trained to enroll in Burley's pre-K programs.

Both programs include:

  • developmentally appropriate instruction, activities, and self-selected play
  • opportunities for artistic and dramatic expression, including performances in school-wide assemblies
  • individual, small group, and large group activities
  • developmentally appropriate preparation for Burley's literature and writing curriculum
  • literature-based field trips
  • enrichment classes
  • daily outdoor recess

Tuition-Based Pre-K with wrap-around day care

The Tuition-Based program follows the academic 40 week calendar and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The core instructional program is from 8:30 to 2:45, with the remainder of the day available for naptime and wrap-around day care. Tuition is $235 a week, plus a fee for snacks and meals. Applications for the coming year's program are usually accepted through March.

State Pre-K

The State Pre-K program offers a morning and afternoon session, both of which are open to toilet trained 3 and 4 year olds. The morning session is from 9:00 to 11:45; afternoon is from 12:00 to 2:45. Applications are accepted any time during the school year. Admission screening interviews are conducted with prospective parents and students. After the interview, your child will either be admitted or placed on a waiting list.
